Hi, I’m Johnny and I like beer.
I’ve been homebrewing for as long as I can remember and brewing seriously since 2012.
Previously I was an archaeologist specialising in the British Iron Age. I made the obvious transition to commercial brewing in 2017 and have since worked at The Hanging Bat, 71 Brewing and Vault City, which I co-founded in 2018.
Scan and Graham have both become good friends over the last year and share a good understanding in what Holy Goat is all about, helping me shape the brewery. I’m fortunate to be working with such generous, knowledgeable, creative and genuinely lovely guys.
Long may we hail the goat together!
I come to Holy Goat having worked primarily in creative media for the last 16 years, mostly sound design for the games industry, the BBC, and as the Operations Director of an indie games studio.
Johnny and I met when he moved to Dundee and we bonded pretty quick through a shared interest in heavy music and mixed fermentation beer.
I’ve known Graham since the early 2000’s, getting to know him well over the last few years through the local beer scene and his delicious habit of arranging bottle shares.
My role in Holy Goat is primarily on the operational side, developing the business and branding, though as we are a small team I also do whatever is required practical or technical to ensure the beers and projects we have planned come together.
I’ve long been a fan of beer, with my journey over the last 20+ years going from local cask ales to modern day Imperial Stouts.
I first knew of Johnny from his Hanging Bat beers which he served up at the Edinburgh Craft Beer Festival back in 2018. I got to know him more when he moved through to Dundee and became a regular face in the beer scene here. Scan and I have known each other since around the turn of the century, originally through the Dundee music scene and more recently through going the pub and numerous bottle shares.
My main role with Holy Goat is managing the website, online shop and social channels, so if you ever get in touch with us through those, it’s most likely going to be me you’re chatting to, if not Johnny.
